What is a microschool?

Microschools typically serve fewer students and lower ratios than traditional schools, giving educators greater flexibility to build strong relationships, personalize learning, and create a distinct school culture.
Do I need to be a licensed teacher to start a microschool?
Requirements vary by state, the type of school you plan to operate, how your organization is structured, and whether you intend to accept school-choice funding. Microschool Founders may come from education, school leadership, parenting, entrepreneurship, or community leadership. Educational experience is valuable, but Founders also need the ability to build relationships, solve problems, recruit families, and lead an organization.
Will I need to teach in my microschool?
Many Founders teach or work directly with students during their first year or two, especially when launching with a small number of students. A Founder without teaching experience may need an experienced educator or partner who can lead the instructional program. Co-founders and partners are welcome to participate in Changemaker Education together.
Do I need to be ready to open a school now?
